Island, North Carolina – Present Day
Paige
Parker isn’t in the market for a man, but it doesn’t stop her from being angry
about all the promotion for Valentine’s Day and its emphasis on couples. She
decides it’s time to celebrate “Happy Singles Day.” With the help of her trusty
personal assistant, Paige makes an out of season B & B reservation on an
island off the coast of North Carolina. There she plans to celebrate February
15th as Happy Singles Day. Getting to the island is not easy—it is
accessible only by a ferry that’s available depending on the weather and there
are no vehicles on the island. She arrives in a torrential downpour and is
driven to the B & B via a bike with a sidecar. The moment she steps into
the B & B, she’s ready to turn around and leave. The house is rundown, and
the host is surly. But Paige can’t leave because the ferry has been shut down
due to the weather.
Single
father Lucas Croft used to run a bed and breakfast, but after the unexpected
death of his wife, he let the business—and the house—slide. It was his mischievous sister who dealt with
Paige Parker, and he figures if he makes it as miserable as possible for her,
then she’ll turn around and leave. He just didn’t expect the storm to close the
ferry. With her unable to leave, they are stranded together for several days.
His daughter is temporarily staying with his sister, so it’s just Lucas and
Paige. She’s a pain in the ass, but a very attractive—and desirable—woman. In a
matter of days, their tenuous relationship turns into an attraction.
HAPPY
SINGLES DAY is a funny romantic comedy about how love can find you
unexpectedly. Paige didn’t arrive at this point of “no man in my life” stage
due to a lack of trying. It’s just that she’s been hurt in the past and feels
it’s best to remain single. Lucas loved his wife and has mourned her since she
died a couple of years ago. Paige is a prickly control freak who goes in and
rearranges things like his kitchen cupboards when he prefers his unorganized
life. The B & B was his dream with his wife and he’s now at the crossroads
wondering what to do next.
With
the rain falling outside, there isn’t a whole lot the two can do except talk.
While Paige is uptight at first, Lucas does intrigue her as she wonders about
his past. It’s clear he had a wife. At first, she wants to get off the island
as soon as possible, but once the weather clears and she can leave, she has
begun to forge a friendship with Lucas and decides to stay. Making s’mores and
asking him “twenty questions” brings them closer. Will this lead them to the
bedroom? Paige will return to Chicago after her vacation is over. Will they
fall in love and will Lucas try to convince her to stay with him?
A
cute tale that will tickle your funny bone, HAPPY SINGLES DAY is about finding
love when you least expect it. Will Paige remain single forever? Can Lucas get
over the death of his wife? Don’t miss this tantalizing funny read.
