THE
FLIP SIDE is a year in the life of Josh, who thought he had life good with a
job he loves and a live-in girlfriend he’s about to propose to. However, as he
prepares to get down on bended knee to propose to Jade, she informs him that
their relationship is over. She has been secretly seeing another man. Since
Josh worked for Jade’s father and lived in Jade’s flat, he loses both his job
and a place to stay. Moving in with his parents, he feels as though he’s back
to square one and unsure what to do next. He decides to flip a coin when it
comes to making future life choices.
Readers
will follow Josh as he stumbles through the coming months. He applies for jobs
with no luck and dates women who just don’t want to be dating an unemployed man
who lives at home. As he decides which way to go, he flips his coin. Is it the
right choice? Josh’s friends are along for the ride, always encouraging him—or
criticizing him if they don’t agree with him. Will he find that job he desires,
or a woman to love him no matter what? Then, one day, he meets a mysterious
woman, and he doesn’t know her name, only that she lives in Europe and works
around Van Gogh paintings. After Josh and his friend win a game show contest,
he is handed the money to go chasing across Europe to find Ms. Right.
A
fun read, THE FLIP SIDE is a cute romantic comedy written by a male. Everything
is told from Josh’s point of view. We get to hear Josh’s thoughts as he
struggles with the decisions he’s making. Is it the right call? Did the coin
flip the right way? Can he find the woman he thinks he’s falling in love with?
His friends encourage him, but they also hinder him. At times, Josh is like a
sad sack character who is always destined to be a loser, yet he pulls himself
up and marches on. He doesn’t know if he will find his mystery woman, nor how
he will react when he does. Even after he does find her, he relies on his
“magic” coin to decide his path of action. He hasn’t yet realized that he
should rely on his own instincts.
THE
FLIP SIDE is written like the male version of chick-lit fiction, with plenty of
humor sprinkled in. Josh is a
self-disparaging character who readers will love, and one they will cheer on in
his quest to find happiness. Things don’t always go smoothly, but that is life.
Don’t miss the fun and love in the FLIP SIDE.
